This is our position at noon today. It is 81 degrees with a 21 knot wind. As you see we will be passing between Cuba and Haiti around midnight and then be in the Caribbean Sea. It was pretty rough last night but smoothed out a lot around 3:00 am. As we did yesterday, we had room service breakfast followed by going to the fitness center. After showering and reading the Dallas newspaper we went up to the pool deck for lunch. I plan on sitting out on our balcony later this afternoon.
Last night we went to the Captain's Welcome Aboard party where he introduced all the senior officers of the ship. At 7:00 we went to the Compass Rose restaurant where we had been invited to dine with Carlos, the current Food & Beverage Director. A couple from Australia had also been invited to join him. They were a very delightful couple and it was a fun evening. After dinner we went to the production show, "Back Stage Pass". The ship's singers and dancers are very talented and the show was fantastic. The ship was moving about pretty good so not sure how they stood up let alone danced.
At 6:00 this evening is something unique only to Regent cruises. It is called "the block party". A bell is rang over the PA system and everyone is to take the wine glasses from their suites and go into the hallway. There, the stewardesses serve wine and cheese while we meet the neighbors around us. The Captain, Hotel Director, and Cruise Director race through all the hallways saying hi to everyone. It really is a fun thing and good way to meet others.
We can view the daily restaurant menus on our interactive tv. Two of my favorite things are on tonight's Compass Rose menu: escargot and veal osso bucco. After dinner the headline entertainment is Brandi Chapman. She is a great singer with tunes from Motown to country western. We have seen her perform on other ships and she is one of the best.
We continue to run into more crew members we know and they are always glad to see us also. Last night at dinner, Carlos surprised us by serving us our St Francis chardonnay. We had ordered 6 cases be put on the ship just for us and it was boarded in Miami. Problem was it was on pallets and impossible to get to. Well, Carlos had them dig it out and we enjoyed a bottle last night. They just brought five bottles to our suite this afternoon and I told the Head Sommelier to have a bottle for us in the Horizon Lounge for this evening. Yes, we are spoiled!!!
Sunset as we left Nassau. The pilot boat just leaving our ship.
Having my "James Bond" martini and saluting my great friend Peter in Sydney, Australia.
Marc, bartender who we have sailed with several times.
This is Elda. She is the assistant Cruise Director and was same on our 2012 South America cruise.
The Captain, short Italian on left, introducing his senior officers at Welcome Aboard party.
Next to Rebecca is Carlos, the Food & Beverage Director. Lawrence and Rosemary are from Sydney, Australia.
One of the buffets set up on pool deck for lunch. Different theme every day.
