Our tour in Kauai was "Hollywood in Hawaii-Movies and Waterfalls". We boarded a small bus that had a video screen up front. Over 300 movies and tv shows have been filmed in the Hawaiian islands and most of them here on Kauai. Our guide would play movie clips as we visited the places they were filmed. Hollywood producers loved Kauai because of its varied landscapes and laid back people. Many movies filmed here were suppose to be taking place in other countries, ie, Viet Nam, South America, Costa Rica, etc. There are no roads on the west side of Kauai but film makers like it as it is desert like. And then there is Waimea Canyon, similar to our Grand Canyon. I want to see it on our next visit here. I would highly recommend you come see this beautiful island. Forget Oahu and come here.
Sun is starting to come up over the mountain.
Driving along east coast.
Wailua Falls--appears in opening credits of "Fantasy Island" tv show. Also "Castaway Cowboy", "Amazing Race", "Tropic Thunder" had scenes filmed here.

Hanamaula Bay--"Donovan's Reef" with John Wayne & Lee Marvin, plus "Six Days and Seven Nights", "Pagan Love Song", and "Voodoo Island" with Boris Karloff filmed here.
The old Coco Palms Resort. It was built on a coconut grove and opened with just 24 rooms in 1953 but was expanded to around 400 rooms in the 1970's to make it the premier resort on Kauai. Many movies stars and VIP's from all over the world stayed here. It was destroyed by a hurricane in 1992 and was never restored due to insurance problems. Hyatt is to restore and reopen it in 2017 however. This is where Elvis Preseley made "Blue Hawaii" in 1961. Scenes from "Fantasy Island" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" were also filmed here.
The lagoon behind Coco Palms where Elvis was married in "Blue Hawaii".
The coconut grove behind the lagoon is very over grown and quite a mess.
Front side of the resort.
Sign for Opaeka'a Falls
Opaeka'a Falls is parts of "Donovan's Reef", "Lt Robinson Crusoe USN" and "Seven Women from Hell" were filmed. Sorry I missed seeing the last one.

We stopped here for restroom break and a light lunch. The was a Long's Drug Store across parking lot so we went there to get some "stuff".
Beautiful court yard right on beach.
Moloaa Bay--"Gilligan's Island" and "Castaway Cowboy" scenes filmed here.
The "SS Minnow" wreck scene was shot by two palms.
Some houses now sitting on Moloaa Bay.
Houses built on stilts as they are on flood plane. Water not from ocean but from mountains inland.
In the distance ahead is Hanalei Bay.
Hanalei Pier--Scenes from "Miss Sadie Thompson", "The Wackiest Ship in the Army", "South Pacific", "Beachhead", and "Acapulco Gold" were filmed here.
