CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO

We are in Cabo San Lucas today
As you see it is located on the southernmost tip of the 1000 mile long Baja Peninsula of Mexico.  The Sea of Cortez lies between mainland Mexico and the Baja Peninsula.

Cabo San Lucas, commonly called "Cabo" in American English, is a city at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.  Cabo San Lucas along with San Jose del Cabo is known as Los Cabo and has a population of nearly 70,000.  Cabo is one of the top 5 tourist destinations in Mexico.  It is known for its beaches, scuba diving, marine life, and scenery.  There are numerous resorts, timeshares, and gated residential communities which have become havens to Hollywood stars and company CEO's.  Despite safety concerns of tourists traveling to Mexico, Cabo remains one of the safest tourist destinations in the world.
There is no pier here for cruise ships to dock so they have to anchor off shore.  Passengers are then "tendered" to the town in the ship's lifeboats.  My tour today is "Land's End Boat and Cabo View".  Rebecca is staying on the ship, again.  So I tendered to shore where we boarded a comfortable tour boat which took us on a brief sail to Land's End, which lies at the southernmost tip of the Baja Peninsula.  Here I got some nice photos of this desolate stretch of rugged coastline and towering granite cliffs, unusual rock formations, pristine beaches tucked into rocky coves.  One of the famous sights is of "El Arco", a dramatic natural rock arch that rises from the sea.  There was also a colony of sea lions to see.  During this hour long cruise we also enjoyed some "beverages".  After this hour long cruise we returned to shore and boarded deluxe buses for the next phase of this tour.  We were driven to a glass blowing factory in the heart of Cabo San Lucas so we could observe native craftsmen produce glass works of art.  Back in the bus we drove north viewing the contrasting coastal scenery on our way to the charming and picturesque town of San Jose del Cabo.  Here is visited the mandatory local church on the plaza.  We then went to a restaurant atop a cliff for some great views of the bay and a beer or soda.  Then back on the bus for a ride back to the little tender pier for ride back to the ship.
Aside from the boat part of this tour, it was a waste of time for me.  The stops we made during the bus part of the tour were not worthy of stopping at.  Little or no cultural, historical, and aesthetic value at all.  I did see the considerable damage done by hurricane Odile that hit Cabo on September 15, 2014.  It was a category 3 hurricane and the strongest to ever hit the Baja Peninsula.  Most of the Baja Peninsula is very arid, almost desert like, and mountainous except for the southernmost end, Cabo.  It did not seem nearly as hot today even though temperature was 85F.  Humidity was lower though at 40%.
Tonight is the "James Bond Martini Cocktail Event" at 6:00 pm.  Later at 9:45 is "Beatles Night Dance Party".  We may dine up in Sette Mari, the Italian restaurant, this evening.  We will be sailing at 5:00 pm and tomorrow will be a day at sea again.
Views today from our balcony while anchored a short distance from Cabo San Lucas.

They are lowering the lifeboats which will be used today to tender passengers ashore.

Stopped at restaurant for view of bay and refreshments.

                                                              OOPS!
We drove about 25 minutes from Cabo San Lucas to San Jose del Cabo.  In between the two are resort hotels, golf courses, and estates.  Not sure why they stopped at this plaza in San Jose for nearly an hour.  What a waste!
