HUATULCO, MEXICO

                                                        Sunset last evening

                                           Our position today--Huatulco, Mexico
The real name of this tourist destination is Bahias de Huatulco because of its nine bays but has unofficially shortened to just Huatulco.  La Crucecita is the main town here with a population of 50,000.  Back in the late 80's or early 90's, when I was a check airman on the Boeing 727, I would occasionally have to fly Club Med charter flights to and from Huatulco on Saturday nights out of DFW.  It was an all night flight trip to and from there.  I remember the small airport was very primitive and in a black as black area.  Back then only a Club Med was here so no other lights.  I remember needing to talk to Mexico City air traffic controllers one night about thunderstorms prior to departing Huatulco.  They put me in a jeep and drove me to a shack on top of a hill nearby.  This was their control tower.  From there I telephoned the air traffic controllers.  I had a good laugh about that experience.
The Bahias de Huatulco are actually made up of a series of nine bays and numerous small coves stretching along the 17 mile jagged coastline, including 36 white sandy beaches.  It is located on the Pacific coast 310 miles south of Acapulco.  Sunshine here can be expected 330 day a year with an average temperature of 82 F.   Over the years it has grown and the full gamut of hotels, resorts, B&B's, and very nice beaches.  The cruise ship pier is at Bahia de Santa Cruz.
Very early this morning (before we got up) it was very windy, 30 miles per hour, and water spray was blowing off the waves when I got up and looked outside.  A couple hours later the wind was calm and the ocean is smooth and mirror like.  Temperature today is forecast to be 85 F with possibility of some afternoon thunderstorms.
My tour today is "Scenic Drive & Shopping".  Guess who is again not getting off the ship!!  I boarded an air conditioned bus and drove to the Tangolunda Bay Hotel District.  Centered along the shoreline of this impressive bay are numerous deluxe hotels, resorts, and super nice homes.  Then we continues on to the stunning Conejos Bay to get some photos of the stunning views.  Next we stopped at the Arts and Crafts Museum where local artisans show their arts, crafts, local products, costumes, and culture.  After about 45 minutes here we departed for the town of La Crucecita where we had an hour to shop, walk around the streets, or just sit in the plaza.  On the way back to the pier, we made a final stop at La Entrega Beach to get a great view of our ship.
Back on ship and ready to go for cocktails and dinner.  We don't sail until 8:00 pm and tomorrow is a sea day.  The show tonight is by "The Perfect Gentlemen".  They are four guys who sing in perfect harmony with some humor thrown in.  We'll give them a try.
Pacific Ocean this morning was mirror like, very smooth.

                                                     Arriving in Huatulco

Our pier--the Captain turned the ship around and backed in

                                                             My tour
                                                  Great views of our ship

                                                 Very nice, air conditioned bus
Photos of driving around Huatulco and various bays

                                                           Nice golf course

This is the Arts and Crafts Museum we visited.  They gave us demonstrations of making blankets.
It started with dance by this girl and little boy.
